Investors use this figure to determine a company's size instead of sales or total asset value. In an acquisition, the market cap helps determine whether a takeover candidate represents a good value for the acquirer.

How to use it?
You can use the Market cap to your advantage in multiple ways. For instance, if an item has a stable Market Cap, that means that the item is less volatile to price spikes and therefore a mature investment option.
The other way around, if the item has spikes in Market cap, then that can indicate a volatile price which can be beneficial if you like to flip the item.
Generally speaking, if the Market Cap is high then the item also has high velocity. High Velocity = Item gets traded often.
